Mike Tucker, legendary eventer, course designer, technical delegate, and commentator passed away today at the age of 73. For over 40 years Tucker was the equestrian commentator for the BBC and his voice is synonymous with eventing at events around the world.

Julie Norman’s Consensus, the 18-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Contucci x Miss Me Not 2823), passed away during the cross-country phase of competition in the Open Preliminary division at the Ocala Winter I Horse Trials on February 9, 2018. A necropsy determined that “Thomas” suffered an aortic rupture while on cross-country.

Hollywood, the 16.2 hand Thoroughbred gelding by Mighty Adversary and out of Reckless Knight, passed away on January 30, 2018 at the age of 26.

Former Fair Hill International (FHI) Executive Director and long-time integral member of the Fair Hill equestrian community, Charles T. Colgan, passed away on January 2, 2018, surrounded by his wife, children, and grand children. Colgan was former Executive Director of both National Steeplechase Foundation and FHI, former Racing Director with National Steeplechase Association, and was a current board member with Fair Hill International. Colgan held the role of FHI Executive Director for 10 years.

Leslie D. Hicks, a well-known upper-level competitor in U.S. eventing, passed away at her home in Citra, Florida, on the morning of November 30 from cancer. She was 58.

The United States Eventing Association (USEA) is saddened to share news of the passing of Hank Rothwell on November 3, 2017, following a non-competition related riding accident.Hank Rothwell is a former chair of the USEA Foundation Board of Trustees (formerly known as the USEA Endowment Trust) from 2004 – 2009. He was also a member of the USEA Board of Governors in 2004 and 2005. Hank and his wife, Midge Rothwell, were generous donors to the USEA and the USEA Foundation. He touched many lives in the eventing community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Crackerjack, a 15.3 hand Irish Sport Horse gelding by Aberjack out of Satan’s Slave was bred by Lucy Boynton Lie for her son Colin Davidson to ride. Davidson started “Crackers” at the Beginner Novice level in 2008 and campaigned him through the Preliminary level. In December of 2010, Davidson passed away in a car accident at the age of 29.

Temecula, CA June 13, 2017 - Tamra Smith, in conjunction with The West Coast Dempsey Syndicate LLC, regretfully announce that the 9-year-old Dutch Gelding “Dempsey” was humanely euthanized yesterday due to unexpected postoperative complications while in recovery at the University of Montreal Veterinary Hospital.

New Market, Tennessee – River Glen Horse Trials and the USEA are saddened to report that the 9-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, All Aboard, ridden and owned by Audrea Dyer collapsed and died on course during the Open Intermediate Division of the River Glen June Horse Trials today. The rider was unhurt.All Aboard will undergo necropsy. Samples were collected and will be analyzed as a part of the ongoing USEA Cardiopulmonary Research Study. Our thoughts are with all of the connections to All Aboard at this difficult time.

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Jaeda, a 13-year-old Thoroughbred mare (Persian Star x Sweet Jennifer) ridden by Booli Selmayr and owned by Kelly Morgan, died between obstacles 13AB and 14 while competing on cross-country in the CCI3* at Bromont, Canada at midday on Saturday June 10, 2017. The rider was unhurt.
