Julie Norman’s Consensus, the 18-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Contucci x Miss Me Not 2823), passed away during the cross-country phase of competition in the Open Preliminary division at the Ocala Winter I Horse Trials on February 9, 2018. A necropsy determined that “Thomas” suffered an aortic rupture while on cross-country.
Norman took Consensus to his first horse trials in the spring of 2009. Over the course of their partnership, the pair completed numerous CIC3* and CCI3* events, including Richland Park, Red Hills International, and Fair Hill International, and contested the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI4* in 2014 and 2015.
At the end of 2015, Norman passed the reins to 16-year-old Adriana Beruvides. Together the pair completed Beruvide’s first Preliminary level event in June of 2016 and placed ninth in the CCI* at the Ocala International 3-Day Festival of Eventing in April of 2017. They also competed at the 2017 North American Junior/Young Rider Championships and the USEA American Eventing Championships. The pair was fifth in the Area V Championships at Holly Hill Farm in November of 2017.
The USEA would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Julie Norman, Adriana Beruvides, and all who knew and loved Consensus.
