Get to know Erin Sylvester, winner of the 2017 Rebecca Broussard International Developing Rider Grant. Sylvester joins us on the program this week to talk about her plans for the upcoming season, both for her upper level partners Mettraise, Paddy the Caddy, and Campground, as well as her 4- and 5-year-old youngsters. She also discusses her plans for how she’ll put the grant money to good use, her previous experience overseas with her longtime partner No Boundaries, and what she looks for in an eventing prospect.

The USEA Foundation offers several different grants and scholarships, all designed to assist event riders in reaching their goals. Grant funds are designed to be used for coaching, training, and competing in the pursuit of advancing skills of horse and rider, some with the ultimate goal of representing the United States in international competition. USEA Chief Development Officer Jo Whitehouse joins us on the program this week to describe the different grants and explain the important work that is accomplished by the Foundation.

The United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Jacqueline B. Mars National Competition and Training Grants: Tamra Smith, Jordan Linstedt and Alexis Helffrich. The grant is awarded to eventing athletes who have been identified as having an impressive record and potential to represent the United States in future international competitions. These three riders will be traveling from the West Coast to attend The Dutta Corp. Fair Hill International CCI2* and CCI3* Oct. 12–15 in Fair Hill, Maryland.

Applications for the 2018 Worth the Trust Educational and Sports Psychology Scholarships are due this coming Monday, October 2, 2017. Past recipients of the Educational Scholarship have used the funds to further their riding education and expand their opportunities to work with instructors in lessons and clinics.

Calling all Young Riders! If you are a member of your Area's Young Rider Program, then you will want to apply right now for the 2017 Amy Tryon Young Rider Grant. The grant is worth $5,000 to the lucky recipient and can be used to help with training and competing expenses during the 2018 season.
